Well, some troubles at home made me determined to find a way out. I talked to Blake's mother to try and help me move into her house, but it turned out that she had already been keeping an out for potential apartments for us! She had her eye on a place less than a block away from her currently, and once I suggested applying for welfare she figured that we could do it.

We've already been approved to move into the apartment, and she's worked out a payment plan to cut the deposit & first/last month's rent down into manageable chunks. I applied for welfare and was denied only because Blake and I aren't living together, but Michelle then gave us a rental agreement for a room in the house she's living in so we can be household together. I see my caseworker again on Monday, and now hopefully we should be approved. And soon! We move in on the 15th so we'll only have to pay half of the rent for this month (which is $550 normally). By then, our welfare should be pushed through and we'll get our first check.

Also, Michelle has someone renting an apartment in her house who is moving to Mexico and can't take her furniture, so we get that too!

Blake and I actually saw the apartment for the first time today, and it's a basement apartment under a smaller house, but it's much larger than I anticipated, and quite nice actually! We're so excited to finally be on our own!
